Snapshot #1 - David Egan

David Egan is currently my favourite Australian artist. Born in Dublin in 1965 and moving to Australia in 1988 at age 23 starting in Advertising. Slowly but surely moving his way through the ranks to embark on a solo exhibition in 1996.
David has also been engaged to undertake major projects - such as the official T-shirt design for Andy Warhol's Portraits Exhibition at the Museum Of Contemporary Art Sydney in 1993. For the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, David was commissioned to produce seven large murals around Circular Quay and The Rocks to celebrate the games. In addition, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority appointed David as the Sydney Olympic Ganes Ambassador for the historic Rocks precinct.
In 2001 U2 granted David approval to produce a series of paintings inspired by their music and lyrics. The show was entitled "Music To Your Eyes", and it was first presented in Sydney. The exhibition then took place in Dublin, at the prestigious store Brown Thomas, in 2002. Plans are now afoot for the exhibition to travel to New York and London.

I have been following his work for a little while now.
I absolutley love his U2 inspired screen prints. The images match so well the feeling that the music and lyrics are tryng to convey. David has been so clever to depict the most amazing selection of U2 songs into fantastic visuals. Full of life and movement like the songs, the paintings are so easy to become addicted to. David is an inspiring artist and I like him already because he is from Dublin and a U2 fan :) Click here for webpage.
